Past, Present, or Future Thinker?

Have you ever heard that there are two types of people (based on how you live your life and where your thoughts are...)?

The first are past people, the woulda-coulda-shoulda folks. Those are the people who dwell in the past and constantly wonder what they could have done better or how their lives would be different now if they just changed that one thing. These are the people who regret. Who live life wondering about their past experiences.

And then there are the future people. These people constantly plan and think about their futures. What they will do, who they will be with, what will happen... and they do everything they can to make sure their future lives up to the one in their head. They worry, worry, worry about anything and everything.

I must say, I fall into the latter. Most of my thoughts are focused on that paper that is due, the assignments I have left, the rest of my day, the rest of my week, and the rest of my life. Silly isn't it? I find myself having difficulty living in the moment. I suppose there should be a third type, the person that lives in the moment. In my eyes, those people are very rare and if you happen to meet one, you should really learn something from them.

So whether you are a past thinker, a future thinker, or the lucky one who lives in every moment...think about it. Think about the way you think and decide if you're happy with it, because well, if you're not, go ahead and change it! You can do it, I promise.

So what type of thinker are you? Do you like being this way? Fill me in friends!

  1. I'm sort of a past thinker.. I keep wondering what I could have done right. I know it is so wrong and just a waste of time. I keep pepping mysely to have no regrets.
My boy is a lucky one who lives in the moment. He's the one who pulls me out when I get a lil out of control in my thinking.

  2. We are all lucky if we have someone in our lives to pull us in the present. :)

  3. hola lauren ^=^! so very nice to meet ya!! thank you so much for your lovely comment in my blog and the follow. you seem to be quite a lovely person with so much going for you, kudos to that and your blog. hope to hear from you again and again.

now on this post...im a libra, so i can be a bit undecisive, he he. but i surely love to live in the moment, whatever happens, happens, sord of say. everything happens for a reason and you learn much from every experience. life is short, so is best to live life to the fullest and not dwell so much in the past and worry less about what may happen. hope this gives you another sense of thought.

  4. Thank you! :) I love your blog as well and I will definitely keep in touch.

And I love that - we need more people around like you. Life really is so short and I hate to think of all of it I waste just doing nothing and with my thoughts in the wrong place. But all you can do is keep moving on and that is surely what I will do. And try to learn from people like you for sure!

  5. I'm not sure if I agree that there's only two kinds of thinkers... Or at least that people should be enclosed to one specific way of thinking... I myself tend to switch from being a past-thinker to a future-thinker... It's only until now that I read this entry that I even realized there was such a classification...

Anyway, I appreciate the entry! :-)

  6. Hi Issa! I'm not sure there is formal classification on this. I got this idea from my stress management class professor. She was talking about these two ways to think and how we can classify ourselves as either. I found it interesting so I just kind of ran with it. :) I think everyone thinks about the past, present, and future, and I was just saying which I tend to focus on more.

  7. I am in the middle. I guess you can say a past future thinker. There are times where I dwell on my past and wonder where I would be if I changed this decision or that one. Then there are times where I plan for my future and how I would like it to go.
