What If?

When I was a kid I remember asking "what if..." a million times until my mom finally said "what if you stop asking what if." Oops.

Now I still do the same, except it is all in my head. What if my life were like this or that? I don't really want to divulge into all the things I think "what if" about, but I wish I could stop sometimes.

Thinking "what if" definitely can help you move in the right direction in your life, but it can be very uncomfortable to think about. Often I wish these thoughts would just go away instead of stew in my head.

Does anyone do the same thing? What if I had saved more money? What if I never did that? What if I was doing something else?

Any tips on how to deal with this? I'd love to hear everyone's comments on this subject!

The Power of Positive Thinking

I recently read in a magazine an article on positive thinking and how you can train your brain. One of the tips I really liked and thought it might work! This could work with a friend or family member or by yourself. When you either think something negative or say it out loud to someone, either say to yourself or have your friend tell you to "Switch!". "Switch!" means to switch out that negative phrase into a positive one.

For example, "I just can't work out today. I'm such a lazy slob."
SWITCH!
"I'm going to work out today and I will feel so much better afterwards!"

Have you ever tried anything similar to get rid of negative thoughts? This could work with any negative phrase whether it is towards yourself or others!

Over-Thinking...

Any other over-thinkers in the house? Sometimes I just get into moods where I wonder a million what-ifs and think about how my life would be different if I did this or did that, had these people in my life or not, had this job or not...

I try not to. I try to be happy with my life and all the choices I've made and realize how much I love the things in my life. It can be a slippery slope over-thinking your life. It can be a good thing, but it can also put your head in a very weird place.
I don't want to go too far into this...but just tell me, who else over-thinks? What do you do about it?

The start of moving...

As I started packing things up today I thought of this....

I think moving on (literally or figuratively) is always bittersweet.

What do you think?

Past, Present, or Future Thinker?

Have you ever heard that there are two types of people (based on how you live your life and where your thoughts are...)?

The first are past people, the woulda-coulda-shoulda folks. Those are the people who dwell in the past and constantly wonder what they could have done better or how their lives would be different now if they just changed that one thing. These are the people who regret. Who live life wondering about their past experiences.

And then there are the future people. These people constantly plan and think about their futures. What they will do, who they will be with, what will happen... and they do everything they can to make sure their future lives up to the one in their head. They worry, worry, worry about anything and everything.

I must say, I fall into the latter. Most of my thoughts are focused on that paper that is due, the assignments I have left, the rest of my day, the rest of my week, and the rest of my life. Silly isn't it? I find myself having difficulty living in the moment. I suppose there should be a third type, the person that lives in the moment. In my eyes, those people are very rare and if you happen to meet one, you should really learn something from them.

So whether you are a past thinker, a future thinker, or the lucky one who lives in every moment...think about it. Think about the way you think and decide if you're happy with it, because well, if you're not, go ahead and change it! You can do it, I promise.

So what type of thinker are you? Do you like being this way? Fill me in friends!
