Greed on TV And Beyond
One of my new favorite channels on TV is GSN: Game Show Network. Some of my favorite shows are Lingo, Catch Phrase, Baggage, and 1 vs. 100. And that brings me to Deal or No Deal. I watch this sometimes too, but it always makes me think about how greedy people are!I've watched many episodes where people kept turning down big money only to walk away with $5 or less. People that said how much they needed the money. Whether they needed to pay off big debts, pay for their kid's college, or simply had a big family.
I don't know about you, but if I was offered $35,000 I would definitely take it if there weren't many big amounts left. Perhaps it is just because I would rather play safe than sorry, but to think of that kind of money when my bank account isn't too large right now is insane. Even more insane is to turn it down without really thinking it through and end up with nothing.
Greed is defined as an excessive desire to possess wealth or goods with the intention to keep it for one's self. Aren't we all greedy sometimes? With the Internet, TV, our friends and family, stores, etc. always telling us about great new products we NEED to have, it is almost impossible not to want things you don't have.
But I know we can control our greed by focusing on things that make us happy that don't cost money. Things like friends, family, love, and the things that bring us peace and happiness that aren't material goods.
And if you ever see me on GSN, you better believe I will take what I can get! ;)

"The Glee Project"!
You know how much I love "Glee", so naturally I would have to tune into Oxygen's "The Glee Project", finding the next new cast member for a 7-episode block. So far there have been three episodes, each episode with a special "Glee" guest star, songs to perform, last chance performances, and lots more. They are trying to find a new star! Personally, my favorites are kids that don't remind me of anyone on the show already.
For example, there are kids that really resemble Kurt, Rachel, Santana, Lauren, and Puck. If you watch the show, who do you think I'm referring to? ;)
My favorites are Cameron, the lengthy "geeky" adorable guy; Damien, the handsome boy from Ireland; and Matheus, the 4'9 cutie. I don't really love any of the girls so far. I actually tuned in to the show after seeing them on the "Today Show" and thinking none of them could really sing. It was probably just nerves because on the show, most of them are amazing.
Do you watch the show? Who are your favorites?

A Great Role Model For Women!
On this season of “Dancing With The Stars”, they truly saved the best for last on their first episode. Despite being 60-years-old and not a size 2, Alley rocked her first dance and is a force to be reckoned with this season. Alley tells E! News, “I did work hard, and I’m going to work harder now. I’ve had the taste of an eight, I want a nine.”
Alley has worked hard and is an amazing role model for all women. She’s had her share of weight struggles like most of us but she never lets her spirit fade and is always “in your face” (like us!).
You may remember her first role that really sparked her career, playing Rebecca Howe on “Cheers”. She won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her appearance on the popular show. She’s also appeared in several TV shows as well as many popular movies such as “Shoot to Kill,” “Summer School,” “North and South,” “North and South, Book II,” and “The Hitchhiker.” Alley has also done numerous television guest spots and hosted “Saturday Night Live” twice.
Yet what most people think about when they think of Alley are her weight struggles. She became a Jenny Craig spokesperson in 2005 and lost and kept off 75 lbs., but when she was done in 2007, she ended up putting the weight back on and then some. This is something every woman can relate to. Fluctuations in weight over time are totally normal, due to stress or kids or in Alley’s case, not having to be accountable anymore.
Soon after, Alley decided to shoot a show called “Kirstie Alley’s Big Life,” a docu-series for A&E which chronicles everything in her life from her weight loss to her life as a single mother trying to raise two normal teenagers in the Hollywood spotlight.
Now she’s working hard to win “Dancing With The Stars” and hopes to lose another 30 lbs. She also started an online weight loss program called “Organic Liaison”. This just proves that Alley never gives up and will keep on the quest to better health.
Looking at Alley and watching her do her thing, you’d never guess she was 60-years-old. She exudes confidence, charm, and a hunger for success: something all women can learn from.

Too Many Electronic Screens!

The other day I was working from home. I didn't have much gas in my car and I really had to wait to fill up until I got paid the next day. So unfortunately, I had to stay at home all day. My boyfriend was coming over but not until later that night. That night I realized, I hadn't been away from a glowing screen ALL DAY except perhaps to use the bathroom and shower. I watched TV, I worked on my laptop, I surfed the web, I set up my new Blackberry and played around with it, and I played games on my Wii. Some of it fun; some productive, but all wrecking havoc on my eyes!

Stop Domestic Violence: Emotional and Physical!
And to be honest, it makes me really, really sad. I like to think that if I was in a similar situation, I would know how to deal with it and I would say "Hell no!" to a guy that tried to put his hand on me that way. But what do I know? I've never had to deal with any physical abuse.
It just breaks my heart to see how people treat each other. From the smaller scale of parents telling kids they are fat every day (when they are clearly not) to a boyfriend beating up a girlfriend because she talked to another guy at school. How different would the world be if we just trusted each other and treated each other with the respect we all deserve?
Everyone is beautiful and here for a reason. Everyone has a chance. Change your attitude and treat the people you make fun of with respect and kindness. It will not only change their world and take away some of their hurt, but it will change yours. Everyone has things to deal with and remember you never know what someone is dealing with.

Something About Change

"The more things change, the more they stay the same. I'm not sure who the first person was who said that. Probably Shakespeare. Or maybe Sting. But at the moment, it's the sentence that best explains my tragic flaw, my inability to change. I don't think I'm alone in this. The more I get to know other people, the more I realize it's kind of everyone's flaw. Staying exactly the same for as long as possible, standing perfectly still... It feels safer somehow. And if you are suffering, at least the pain is familiar. Because if you took that leap of faith, went outside the box, did something unexpected... Who knows what other pain might be out there, waiting for you. Chances are it could be even worse. So you maintain the status quo. Choose the road already traveled and it doesn't seem that bad. Not as far as flaws go. You're not a drug addict. You're not killing anyone... Except maybe yourself a little. When we finally do change, I don't think it happens like an earthquake or an explosion, where all of a sudden we're like this different person. I think it's smaller than that. The kind of thing most people wouldn't even notice unless they looked at us really close. Which, thank God, they never do. But you notice it. Inside you that change feels like a world of difference. And you hope this is it. This is the person you get to be forever... that you'll never have to change again."
Enjoy, let me know what your thoughts on change are. Or tell me if you love Everwood too! :)
