Just a little apartment update!

I'm all moved into an apartment of my own. Well, with my friend Krissy. :) I am thinking about starting a weekly apartment life update on here once we get our Internet set up. I've only been there a few days and I love it! I don't even mind cleaning up and cooking yet... my only complaint is the neighbors. I am starting to think we have a vampire above us who wears big platform heels constantly. We hear heavy footsteps day and night. The other night someone was yelling on the phone at 2:30 AM. Oh well, the joys of apartment style living! More to come... ;)

In the meantime, share your thoughts if you live in an apartment now or have in the past. I'd love any tips anyone cares to share!

Be Grateful

One of my biggest pet peeves is dealing with those people who think they should get whatever they want, whenever they want at the cost of others. And then never even say thank you. I've dealt with this a lot lately with babysitting my cousins. One of the girls throws a huge fit if her sister and I do not want to do what she wants to do. She wants me to buy her everything and she never once says a simple, "Thanks". I constantly yell that the world does not revolve around her and it never gets through. The worst part is... she's only 7 years old. How much worse will it get?

Another thing is watching those relationships where the girl expects the guy to be at her beckon call 24/7, buy her everything her heart desires, and she never acts like she is grateful. I can't imagine treating someone this way. I'll never say that I am a perfect girlfriend but I think part of being a good one is not being so controlling, always saying thank you and please and being appreciate to whatever your boy buys you or does for you, and offering to pay your way every once in a while too.

So whether you are 7 years old or 20 or 90... remember to thank those around you. Be appreciative and give back to the people who do nice things for you. People will be happy you do.

Dream Communications

Do you ever think about what your dreams mean? Have you ever been to one of those dream prediction websites? I'm all about that. I love to try to figure out what my dreams mean. Do you believe that people who have died can communicate to you through your dreams? I think I do.

I had a dream last night that my grandpa (who died over a year ago) was with me. He was riding a tractor and goofing around with me. He then came over and hugged me and told me how much he loved me and how much he loved spending time with me. And I felt it and it was almost like he was still here.

It might be a silly notion, but my spiritual optimism is coming out. I feel like he was just there reminding me that he still loved me, where ever he was. It is a comforting thought and it leaves me in tears and smiles.

Have you ever had the same feeling?

What's Love Got To Do With it? Everything!

I've been thinking about life lately and what it means to be happy. I realized it always comes down to one word, no matter what: Love.

Aren't you unhappy if you don't love your job or your love for your family, a friend, or a partner fades?

When it comes down to it, I think happiness is love. Whether you learn to love yourself, realizing what a loving family you have, love being with your best friends, find out what true love is, or love what you do... love has everything to do with it.

What do you think? What makes you happy and how does it have to do with love?

Throw Your Leggings Out!

This post comes to you via an idea from my friend Alicia Flowers and the pained faces we made watching many girls traipsing around a concert recently wearing leggings that really did not do anything for their bodies.

Leggings? Do people think they look good in them?

Ohhhhhh Lord. Looks like someone doesn't have a full length mirror! I've come up with some DO's and DONT's for leggings because it seems this is one fashion statement that refuses to go away.

DO:

Wearing leggings underneath a skirt or dress that is thigh length or longer is acceptable.

DON'T:

Act like leggings are PANTS! They aren't. No one wants to see your bootay. Leggings are basically ugly, multi-colored extra layer of skin. It is not acceptable to walk around with no pants at all... so why would it be awesome to walk around naked but with purple skin?

DO:

There is really only one 'do' and I said it already.

DON'T:

Under any circumstances wearing leggings like these:
Basically leggings look terrible unless you are 90 pounds or 9 years old, so why bother?
Someone just let me know when leggings are uncool again. Hopefully I'll be dead by the time this trend is resurrected AGAIN.

4 Things I Love

I've seen so many beautiful rainbows lately. I've heard so much good music lately. I've been surrounded by some fabulous people. So here's a list for when I start feeling blue... of things I love and appreciate.

1. Rainbows. They're beautiful and almost seem unreal to me. They always remind me of God and I love that.

2. The good people in my life. I am so thankful I have every kind of friend. Those fun friends you can't help but laugh with, the ones that are so much like you it's scary, the ones that you can tell everything to... I have each one. I have two 12 year old neighbors who are like my brothers and constantly remind me to enjoy life, I love them to death. I have a boyfriend that I love that constantly reminds me that I'm beautiful and that he loves me, what can you really complain about when you have that?

3. Lyrics like these: "It takes a thought to make a word
And it takes some words to make an action
And it takes some work to make it work
It takes some good to make it hurt
It takes some bad for satisfaction

Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful
Ah la la la la la la life goes full circle
Ah la la la la life is wonderful
Ah la la la la la"

That song is lovely and Jason Mraz is one of my favorites. I just went to his concert and he's even better live!

4. I have opportunities for change. I'll be living with a roommate in an apartment near my school soon. As much as I don't like it, I should be grateful I can attend college and have the opportunity to get a good job when I graduate (hopefully with this economy, yikes!).

What are you grateful for?

P.S. A funny entry about girls who shouldn't wear leggings coming soon.... ;)

Something About Change

I've been dealing with a bit of change lately and have more to come and it brings me to one of my favorite shows. No longer on the air, I still love "Everwood". It has always touched my heart. Here is a quote from the main character Ephram, in his "Tragic flaw" paper.

"The more things change, the more they stay the same. I'm not sure who the first person was who said that. Probably Shakespeare. Or maybe Sting. But at the moment, it's the sentence that best explains my tragic flaw, my inability to change. I don't think I'm alone in this. The more I get to know other people, the more I realize it's kind of everyone's flaw. Staying exactly the same for as long as possible, standing perfectly still... It feels safer somehow. And if you are suffering, at least the pain is familiar. Because if you took that leap of faith, went outside the box, did something unexpected... Who knows what other pain might be out there, waiting for you. Chances are it could be even worse. So you maintain the status quo. Choose the road already traveled and it doesn't seem that bad. Not as far as flaws go. You're not a drug addict. You're not killing anyone... Except maybe yourself a little. When we finally do change, I don't think it happens like an earthquake or an explosion, where all of a sudden we're like this different person. I think it's smaller than that. The kind of thing most people wouldn't even notice unless they looked at us really close. Which, thank God, they never do. But you notice it. Inside you that change feels like a world of difference. And you hope this is it. This is the person you get to be forever... that you'll never have to change again."

Enjoy, let me know what your thoughts on change are. Or tell me if you love Everwood too! :)

The Great Thing About a Really Good Movie....

I call it my movie after-glow.

They say a really good movie will make you feel different after you watch it. I believe it. First off, I love movies. Trouble is, I can hardly watch them alone... I always get distracted. But watching movies with someone is one of my favorite past-times. They have some magical quality that TV lacks.

I feel lighter somehow, different but better different. I notice things more. I think about things more clearly. It only lasts a short time but coming out of that movie theatre, my legs tingling asleep, a really good movie gives me that feeling I don't really feel anywhere else.

It's weird, I know. But I can only hope somewhere, someone out there feels the same way. For now, I'll relish in my movie after-glow. That movie was "(500) Days of Summer". Go see it! :)
