Day Fourteen...

First, fun fact about me: I don't like the number 14. I don't really know why...but anyways...

Day fourteen is a picture of me and my family.

Okay so this isn't all my family but pretty close. That's me on the left, my boy right next to me, my dad in the blue shirt, my mom next to him in white and the rest are my lovely neighbors! This is from a vacation we all took together. :)

Hair Challenge...

Me with my straight, long (boring?) hair.

So I'll admit something to all of you. I'm THAT person. As in THAT person who never does their hair any different. Day in and day out, I've been wearing my hair the same. It is down & straight. That is it. I guess it comes from my lack of hair knowledge and my years of dealing with bad hair.
My hair is super thick and prone to being a wavy, frizzy mess. I had bangs from ages 3-15. I've been getting my hair permanently straightened for years and straighten it almost daily. I'll skip days washing it just so I don't have to deal with it. My hair is so thick, ponytails and headbands usually give me a headache.

So I'm challenging myself and asking something of all of you. Give me hairstyles to try. Nothing too crazy because I am not really good with anything besides the ordinary. But I want to challenge myself to do different hairstyles each day. I will post pictures of course!

Day Thirteen...

Day Thirteen is a fun one! Celebrity Crush.

Most definitely, lately, mine has been John Krasinski. I don't know what it is about him, but he is just adorable and funny. My boyfriend will be him for Halloween and I'm being Pam from "The Office". :)

Day Twelve...

Getting sick of these yet? I hope not! I've been busy so these are a nice way to keep engaged with my blog.

Day twelve is simple...how I found out about Blogspot.

Basically, I started finding blogs I enjoyed reading and decided I really wanted to start one. I had been writing random entries and posting them on Facebook Notes, but it just wasn't really the same. So I googled "blogs" and blogspot was one of the first to come up. I decided to give it a shot and transferred some entries over to my blog. And I've been loving it ever since...

An Update on me!

Hello friends, I thought I'd give you guys an update on my life. Seems I haven't done one in quite some time. Not sure if anyone cares, but here you go! :P

Now that the semester started (my last semester, yikes!!!) my schedule is pretty much the same week to week. I like the routine. I like that I don't have anything to do in the morning so I can continue to stay up late and sleep in.

I've been going into an office to do work for my internship on Mondays and usually doing laundry and homework at night, Tuesday I work out with a friend and hang out with my boy, Wednesday I work and run errands sometimes, Thursdays I hang out with one of my best friends and have a night class, and Fridays I work and usually see my boy again. Sometimes things vary, I hang out with different friends or have intern events, but I like that I know what to expect for the most part.

The other thing that has been a bit different is I've been hanging out mostly with either my good girl friend or my boy. It has been great to spend lots of time with people who I know care for me and understand me. After all my posts with friend troubles, I'm realizing it definitely is quality over quanitity. It is nice to have lots of friends to hang out with every once in a while, but it is also great to have a few amazing ones to spend lots of time with.

So that's pretty much all that is new with me! What's new with you?

Day Eleven...

Today is a favorite YouTube video.

Not sure I really have a favorite. I sometimes look on there for silly videos, but I don't really want to post any of those sketchy ones. I mostly use YouTube to watch music videos. So here's a song I enjoy...

What Can You Do With A Creative Major? A Lot!

Guest Post by GreekForMe!

“You’re an English major? What are you going to do with that major?”
If I had a $1 for every time I heard that question, I’d be a millionaire able to buy six Starbucks grande lattes. It’s a question that plagues every English, Journalism, and Communications major, and just about any degree in the creative arts. Can creativity really sprout off into a viable career, or will we be sentenced to ramen for life?

Put that business suit on. As an English, Journalism, or Communications major, you’re taught to perform research and thoroughly investigate a topic, plan out your ideas in a logical manner, and clearly and professionally shed light on the topic via your writing. Isn’t this what the business world is? Researching what needs to be done and all the pros, cons, possible hurdles and expected successes, developing a plan for it, and proposing this plan to influencers?

Is there room in the business world for your creative mind? Oh yes! The businesses that survive today are led by influencers who are more likely to think outside the box and look for creative solutions and creative people to hone in on those areas of opportunity. Instead of being stalled by a barrier, they identify methods to leap over it. Your creative and unique thinking is an asset to the business world.
It’s not going to be easy. You’re going to need to start at the bottom and work your way up through dedication, creative thinking, and positively contributing to the company’s goal, just as every person in your college graduating class will need to do. Yet, your creative thinking and professional writing expertise allow you to apply for a wide range of internships and jobs – traditional marketing jobs, as well as online marketing careers, advertising, journalism, research assistants, public relations, and a myriad of business-related jobs. Instead of being fenced in to one major and area of experience, you have the freedom to test different fields and decide where your future will ultimately lead.
So the next time you hear “What are you going to do with that major?”, your response should be “Quite a lot, thanks!”

Day Nine!

Day nine is something I'm proud of in the last month...

I'm simply proud of myself for keeping up with everything I'm involved in. I have an internship that requires a decent amount of work, I'm in school full time, I work part time, and I just want to have a social life.

I love that I can juggle everything without getting too stressed out.

Okay, so sometimes I get stressed.

Day Eight...

Day eight features short term goals for this month...

1. Work out a few times a week. I am pretty out of shape but this month I am starting to work out with a friend once a week and I got some new fitness games I am hoping to keep doing during the week also.

2. Keep up with school work. I am pretty good with this but it is always a goal when school is on.

3. Read more at night before I go to sleep instead of watch TV.

4. Work on my final portfolio for my journalism major. I need to turn in one before graduation in December.

Here's what I thought of the VMA's..

They might as well been called The Gaga's, or as Chelsea said... GA ga!

Let me first say I was very excited for the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). They had been showing commercials and promos for weeks, if not months. One of my best friends and I planned to watch it together and were geeked for some of the performances.

Let's start with the letdowns and work our way to my favorite parts.

LAME:
  • I love Chelsea Handler. She's hilarious on her show and I've seen her live. Poor girl was nervous. I did laugh at some of the bits, but for the most part...not so funny.
  • Justin Beiber, I thought you were 12. Apparently you're 16. That is not good. That's all I'm sayin'.
  • KANYE. Okay, T. Swift went up there with a heartfelt song about how you're still innocent and that she basically forgives you because everyone makes mistakes. You come out (last also, great job MTV!) and sing a song about how it is okay to be a douche. Gag.
  • They had random performances which they cut off. I suppose they were for the attendees while we were shown commercials, but still. I would have liked to see more of some of those..
  • Gaga won EVERYTHING. I hate when one artist comes and steals all the awards. I know it is not their fault everyone likes them, but show someone else some love, voters.
AWESOME:
  • I loooooved performances by Florence + The Machine (so much in fact, that I downloaded her CD today), Paramore & B.o.b (Love them, especially Paramore!), and Taylor Swift.
  • The parts with Chelsea where she was meeting the new artists. Chelsea + Ke$ha = golden.
  • Drake! I love him. But Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beats could have left and no one would have cared. I wish he would have sung "Over".
Overall, pretty entertaining but disappointing. There's always next year...

What did you think if you watched it?

Day Seven!

Day Seven is a picture of myself and my closest friend...

I have a lot of close friends but the person I share the most with and hang out the most with is my boy. Here is a picture of us at a baseball game this summer!

Facebook = Craving Attention?

Recently I had a friend tell me that she didn't feel like her Facebook status was worth anything unless someone 'liked it' or commented on it. Like it wasn't worth sharing unless it was deemed worthy by her peers. The worst part about this was... I've felt the same way. I've even deleted statuses or comments that no one commented on because it felt pointless.

What is it about social media that makes us want to share every little thing that happens to us? And then causes us to feel like it is pointless to post unless someone shares something else about what we posted?

Another friend told me that he gets no notifications on Facebook. He was going to start writing on everyone's walls and commenting, just so he gets more. I replied that I love notifications too and he said...doesn't everyone?

That's so true. I think all of this comes down to one thing. We all want love and crave attention. We want to be accepted by our peers and shown that we matter. Facebook is a platform for this.

While I don't think Facebook will go away any time soon and that it is a nice way to connect with your friends, show them you care about them, and feel some love in return...remember something else. Remember that you are amazing and you don't need to post every little thing that happens to you to make it real. You don't need a million notifications to be loved or accepted.

Day Two!

Day two is...."What I did today!"

Since today hasn't really started, I will just fill you guys in on what I've been doing this week so far.

Monday, I woke up around 10, got ready and headed off to my internship. I spent about 2 hours sending out a press release to various websites. (Copy, paste, copy, paste...) From there I headed to the local outdoor mall to pick up a birthday gift for my grandmother. I found her this beautiful bracelet that spells out "Grandma" and I engraved "Love, Lauren" on the heart. All for $26!
I got a raspberry banana smoothie and walked around while it was being engraved. At home, I did some online shopping and got some more great deals. I bought 3 textbooks for school, a used copy of DDR and Rockband Songs, a fitness game for PS2, and a subscription to Cosmo magazine. My friend and I are going to each buy magazine subscriptions and trade them. :)

Then Monday night I went to my boy's house and played some Wii and watched TV and just relaxed. Tuesday I got up earlier than usual to go help out at work while someone had the day off. Luckily, I got off around 1, had lunch with a work friend, and headed on home to wrap some presents and relax.

Now for today...I have an appointment to go to then working tonight. Hopefully something fun will come up after work! Have a great day friends!
